SUMMARY: Our lesson today will take us to Canada RIGHT AFTER WWI. Canada clearly made some strides during the First World War, but the question will be where does Canada go from there??? Do things change for the better or worse? Today we'll analyze a MAJOR event shortly after WWI that put Canada back in the global spotlight by looking at the Winnipeg General Strike.

SUMMARY: : Today we're going to tackle Prohibition in America and Canada during the 20s and 30s. We'll start by looking at some political cartoons to see if we can understand the messaging. From there Mr. Reynolds will simply delivery a Google Slides Presentation on how Prohibition affected both Canada and the USA. Our job will be to fill in the tracking sheet on key concepts.
To END we'll analyze a Simpsons episode about Prohibition and see how much they pulled from the history books to help write their episode. ***Always fun when we can analyze history through a different medium***

SUMMARY: Today is a BIG DAY - we'll be going over our WWI Historical Inquiry Task. This is a MONSTER of a task!! Thursday we'll focus on the Success Criteria, Rubric and provide an Exemplar or 2....we should even be able to have our topics selected. After that you'll have 4 full periods to work on this. Again - it is a MONSTER of a task!! Make sure you're using your time wisely!!

SUMMARY: With only one lesson to go, we are now in wrap-up mode for our WWI Unit. Over the next few class days you should be working on the follow:
1) Preparing for your WWI Quiz (Taking Place WEDNESDAY)
2) Finishing off your Paragraph Tasks (Due THURSDAY)
These Paragraph Tasks will be marked for QUALITY OF INFORMATION and PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE. Make sure you go back over the tasks you end up choosing to submit for marks to make sure you've completed them to the expected standard. I should see a good chunk of A.P.E. structured paragraphs. :)
Last thing - MAKE SURE YOU USE THIS TIME WISELY!!!

Did Canada leave the war the same as it was coming in, OR did things change??? Were those changes or non-changes positive or negative?? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!
After today we're in total wrap-up mode for this unit. That means we need to finish off outstanding work, decide what you'll be handing in to showcase your understanding of the material, get ready for a quiz and get our first major assessment (15% of overall mark).

What were the results? Did anything about Canada CHANGE while we were fighting? What were the perspectives of those fighting?Thursday we'll focus on the broader idea of Canadians fighting in the air or by sea, Wednesday we'll look at the 4 MAJOR battles Canadians are most remembered for, andwe'll take some time to gain some PERSPECTIVE w/ some clips/videos.

SUMMARY: Now that our fun first week has come to an end and you know HOW we'll be studying history, we'll actually START the course material by looking at the START of the World War One. Many times in this course we'll need to do a lesson on the GLOBAL context of an event before we can look at the CANADIAN context.....WWI is a perfect example where we need to look at the big picture first. Monday, we'll start looking at how Canada fits into the picture.

SUMMARY: The next 3 days will be all about discovering HOW we'll be learning history. If you can remember a lot of random historical events - GREAT - that's NOT what makes a good historian. Historians are THINKERS & ANALYZERS!! Heck - if you're really good at history you should be able to PREDICT some events before they happen!!! Fun Fact - Mr. Reynolds predicted the 2021 January 6th Capitol Hill Riot in the USA!
