SUMMARY: Sorry for the slow going lesson yesterday - Constitutional progress is a bit of a snooze. TODAY though - BIG DAY! We'll be going over the process by which your rights and freedoms are either PROTECTED or LIMITED - today we'll go over the Oakes Test. We'll do a basics walkthrough on how the Test works, I'll provide an exemplar, and we'll finish by you guys trying to go over a few ACTUAL cases.

SUMMARY: Welcome back! Back to the grind....today we'll do what we SHOULD'VE done to start our Rights & Freedoms Unit - discuss the basics of our Constitution and the journey it's taken over the years. Constitutions are RULE BOOKS for how laws are made - so for Rights and Freedoms to be truly protected, they must be part of CONSTITUTIONAL law.

SUMMARY: Today we'll start a new unit and jump right into it - Our Rights and Freedoms in Canada. We SHOULD be focused on how the Canadian Constitution developed these concepts, but to have a Fun-Friday we're jumping ahead. Wednesday we'll all take some time to get familiar with the CCRF again (should have done this in Civics), because it is VITAL to know this document for this unit. You'll simply be copying basics from the Charter with some ANALYSIS questions along the way. Thursday we'll start seeing how the CCRF has changed life in Canada by looking at some older cases and even discuss some newer ones.

SUMMARY: One of our last lessons in this unit is to focus on how the government changes a law. We'll quickly go through a silly video that highlights what happens at each stage (while you take notes). Afterwards we'll watch a few ACTUAL clips on what changing a law should looks like (or shouldn't). SUMMARY: Hope you guys enjoyed looking at the oldest legal document in history yesterday! Some hilarious laws for sure, but pretty cool how there's still some overlap to today's laws. Though we will have time to consolidate our learning on Hammurabi's Code, I'd like to start today by having you guys do some short readings w/ analysis questions and case studies. The topics are still focused on the origins of law in Canadian society, but today we'll keep it much more current.

SUMMARY: Now that we have an understanding on how Canadian Law is broken into different categories, we'll start analyzing where it all came from. Over the next few days, we'll start analyzing the historic roots of Canadian Law. What better place to start than the first promulgated legal code in history!! Our focus today will be on analyzing Hammurabi's Code. We'll pick some of the laws apart, but in the end we'll try to find some similarities between this ancient legal code and our own.
